This morning my heart took a picture, I wish I could post it for you all to see.
I was downstairs and Mitt called out to me. I went upstairs and crawled into his hospital bed with him. As I was enjoying the moment of snuggling next to him; he fell back to sleep and I was listening to him breathe. I turned to take in his profile and noticed his face was directly under a large wedding photo of us. In the photo we are kissing and our son Rusty is just a little boy; and he's peeking at us as we share our first kiss as husband and wife.
Our wedding photo is matted in white with a silver frame and the hospital bed has silver rails. So the mental picture I took was; Mike's profile on a white sheet, against the silver bed rails, right above him was the silver frame with the white mat, with the photo of us kissing and Rusty peeking and I thought...this is poetic.
I took a picture of that very moment...I will keep it forever in my heart.
So beautiful and special! xoxo

Mike & Chris,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sending me the blog link. I just finished reading the enries. You are both amazingly strong people in how you are handling Mike's declining condition.
I have known Mike as a business aquaintance for the past few years. We both called on Costco and shared stories of selling to this very important customer. I enjoyed Mikes's energy, openness, and engaging personality very much. We would always seek each other out to say "hi" at the many Costco openings or trade shows.
I am saddened by reading the blog as it indicates that shy of a miracle a very special person may be leaving us soon. I am pleased to read that Mike is keeping a positive attitude despite the realities of his condition. That does not surprise me at all.
Chris, I have not met you. It is obvious that Mike chose a wonderful woman to marry 18 years ago. Stay strong, enjoy your time together as painful as it can be sometimes, and remember that all your memories together cannot be taken away.
Best wishes to both of you,
Dick Matkin
